The use of arts and crafts projects in schools will also teach children to perform mathematical equations. While in the First Grade, students learn to color and paste clever characters together so that the numbers equal the proper amount of the math problem put before them. Students can correct their answers by re-pasting the picture to another location, or adding another to get the correct sum.

There are many ways to expand knowledge in the use of arts and crafts projects in schools. One of the favorite arts and crafts projects that is used at the Sixth Grade level of schooling is the construction of a volcano. This arts and crafts project will require a great deal of creativity and will allow the student to combine art and Science in a very realistic form.

The use of Arts and Crafts projects in schools may sometimes require a waiver from the parent. The volcano project is one arts and crafts project that requires students to mix chemical compounds that would normally be found in any home. School policies, however, dictate that the students submit a waiver for damages in case some of the baking soda used in the eruption of the volcano makes its way into the eyes of students during the school day.

The use of Arts and Crafts Projects in schools can be extended to the High School level when the Arts and Crafts projects are used as decorations for proms or other class parties. Students can get very creative with their Arts and Crafts projects when they are allowed to create hearts and flowers and any other shape to reflect a festive glint on any type of school celebration.

The sports events at school will give students the chance to show team spirit and learn to express themselves with color and graphic art. The use of Arts and Crafts projects in schools can be elaborate banners that show how tough their football team is, and can serve a dual role of exhibiting the school colors and motto to the fans that come to the various sports events such as football, baseball and basketball. There are many ways that schools can reduce the cost of educating by allowing the students to provide artwork for the walls in the classroom.

Some of the Arts and Crafts projects that elderly people prefer most often will feature ceramic birds in many stages of flight. Some of the birds will be found sitting on tree branches that look just like the one in your backyard. These projects can fill the lonely hours of the day with marvelous colors and give the elderly a chance to experience a feeling of accomplishment with each ceramic piece that is finished. These Arts and Crafts projects for senior citizens will also offer them a chance to express themselves and see their expressions in vivid color.

Christmas crafts can be made from a variety of materials. If you like working with wood, you can cut out typical holiday designs, like snowmen, Christmas trees, or Santa figures and then spend some time painting to bring life to your Christmas crafts. There are many websites that offer free patterns to make these items, or you can print an image from your computer and use it to create your own pattern. If it’s your first time working with wood as a Christmas craft, start out simply- cut out a rectangle and make a sign for your holiday guests! You could paint little trees or stars, and print out “May all your Christmas wishes come true!” or a similar saying.

If you’d like to really get into the holiday spirit, try your hand at making wreath Christmas crafts. Go to your local Christmas tree seller, and ask for tree branches that have fallen from the trees as people drag them to their cars. Often, you can get them for free. You’ll want to browse the Christmas crafts section of a hobby store- and pick up festive ribbon; a deep red will look beautiful. Walk down the craft aisle that contains the silk flowers and pick out some small, red holly type flowers as well as babys breath. Alternatively, you could make your wreath Christmas crafts with real flowers.

To assemble your wreath Christmas crafts, bend a wire coat hanger into a circular shape. Using string or bread ties, start winding your Christmas tree clippings around the wire to form a circular shape out of the branches. Keep attaching the pieces to your wire coat hanger until you get a full, round wreath. Here is when making your own Christmas crafts becomes fun! Wrap your ribbon around your wreath decoratively, and move it around until you like it’s positioning. Tie a fancy bow in the center. Then, using a hot glue gun, you can finish your wreath Christmas crafts by attaching pieces of babys breath and holly berries that you purchased from the craft store. Scatter them all around the wreath to create perfect Christmas crafts.

The holiday season is a festive time, and making your own Christmas crafts can really add to the special feeling of that time of year.

The statues and figurines of Buddha we see all around us are the statues of Shakyamuni Siddhartha Gautama the “Buddha” who was born in Kapilavastu, an ancient province of Nepal, as the son of king Suddhodana and Queen Maya Devi. The Queen had few auspicious dreams before the lord entered her womb from the Tushita heaven.

As Prince Siddhartha Gautama came to the age 28 he renounced the kingdom and lived the life of a mendicant. He sought and attained enlightenment in six years under a pipala tree and became a Buddha, in Bodhgaya. After enlightenment he uttered this stanza: “Through many births I have passed the builder of the house of pain is gone and I am free from any more births”

Shakyamuni Buddha preached dharma through out his life and the light of the world had gone out and lord passed away into Nirvana at an old age of over 80.

Talking of Buddha statues & figurines, the statues of Buddha are found in a wide variety of poses, the most common of all the type is the sitting Buddha statue in a lotus position. The posture displays inner and outer balance and tranquillity. In meditating Buddha statues the posture of the hand or the mudra, have the fingers of the right hand resting lightly on the left as they lay in the enlightened one’s lap and legs are crossed in a Lotus position. Many Buddha statues sit on a pedestal in a lotus blossom which represents the enlightened being or emptiness.

Another posture is the Abhaya mudra in which the right hand is raised and is the gesture of dispelling fear. Statues calling the earth to bear witness are represented by postures where the right hand is touching the earth below, which displays total faith. And, finally the reclining Buddha statue represents Buddha’s passage into death or Nirvana, as the disciples, angles and gods bade farewell to never returner Shakyamuni Buddha. Medicine Buddha statue symbolizes the belief that Buddha parted knowledge on medicine along with spiritual guidance.

The Mudras or postures of Hands of the Shakyamuni Buddha figures are either in abhaya (Fearlessness), Dhyana (meditation), Dharmachakra Parivartana (turning of the wheel of Dharma or doctrine or religion) and Bhumisparsa (calling the earth goddess to witness the touching of the earth by the right hand)

Buddha statues are hand made and thus they are artisan’s labour of Love, or a loving heart and moving hands giving them shapes in definite postures. The earliest representations of Buddha were mounds erected on the relics of Buddha, also known as “Stupa”. The external decorations on the stupas display the entire life of the Buddha from leaving home to enlightenment and to Mahaparinirvana.

The largest and tallest Buddha statues were found in Afghanistan which were colossal in size and have been much recently destroyed by the Taliban’s. The Statues of Buddha in Nepal are generally made out of gold, granite, bronze, copper, brass, resin, silver, ceramic, wood, etc. And, they are put on sale in a fine work of display in Thamel and Durbar Square in the ancient city of Kathmandu in Nepal or sold in various online Buddha Statues store like http://himalayacrafts.com at wholesale or retail. The standing Buddha statues with flowering robes is also common. And Buddha heads and hands are also found for sale.

All these meanings behind the Buddha statues bring forth the memories of the enlightened master who once walked upon this earth 2500 years ago. In other words they are reminiscences of the “Grand Master”.

Baby handprint footprint crafts fall into two categories.

The first is the crafts that you do with your baby or toddler for fun that uses their own handprints and footprints.

The second is the crafts you do using your baby handprint footprints as keepsakes.

Baby Handprint/Footprint Crafts for Fun

My personal favourite idea for fun crafts that use your a baby handprint is finger painting. I started finger painting with my son Jamie when he was about 20 months. Now at two years old he loves nothing more than to be stripped down to his nappy and given the finger paints and a big piece of paper to play with. The first few times I needed to help him finger paint to ensure the paint went on the paper and not in his mouth, but now I just sit with him while he explores with the paints and colours by himself.

Baby Handprint Footprint Keepsakes

The main ways to preserve your baby’s footprint or handprint for future prosperity are:

Ceramic Painting Keepsakes

Ink Handprint Keepsakes

Impression Material Keepsakes

Baby Journals

Ceramic Painting Keepsakes

I’m sure once you see your baby’s tiny hand and foot for the first time you will be just like I was and want to preserve it for life. My husband and I decided to take our baby to a Ceramic Cafe to capture his tiny wee footprint and had a totally enjoyable family craft morning together. The cafe has all sorts of ceramic items you can choose to paint, all while you have your coffee!

We chose a cute pair of ceramic flip flops and once our baby was asleep we put him in the front pack and were able to paint his feet and press them onto the ceramic flip flops. We used paint to write his name and his birthday on each one. We also made a plate each for his grandmothers and gave it to them from their grandson for their Christmas present. They of course totally loved them and we all treasure this tiny ceramic footprints.

Ink Handprint Keepsakes

You can also use a non-toxic ink pad to capture your baby’s hand and foot prints. You can purchase baby handprint kits which have all that you need in them.

Impression Material Keepsakes

It is also possible to use impression material that you can purchase specifically for making a baby hand or footprint. You can get kits that do not require mixing, baking or gluing and can be used right out of the box and air dried overnight.
Baby Journals

Many Baby Journal Books also include a space for you to put your baby handprint and footprint.

Baby journals will also help you to totally document your baby’s first year.
To learn more about baby handprint footprint crafts go to Baby Books Guide the ultimate resource site for parents. It is where you can find books both for your baby and about your baby.

Why are wooden toys classics?

It is easy to be tempted in the store to look at and buy the latest and greatest, flashiest new toy on display. But, we have all found that the classic wooden toys are the ones that stand up to the test of time both in terms of durability, stimulating and holding children’s interest, generation after generation.

I let out a chuckle when I saw the classic wooden duck on a string among my daughter’s first birthday presents. I thought, “Wow I had one of those when I was a kid”. And now, just as I did, my daughter pulls on the string and the duck follows her everywhere as she toddles around the house. The latest whirling, flashing thing is great for a few moments, but this duck is her friend.

It’s a similar story with trains. All of my son’s friends have wooden train sets. They have been played with for years and years. When they visit each other to play with all their newfangled stuff and then begin to look bored on a rainy day, its always a sure thing to ask “who wants to play trains?” Wooden train sets are never boring to either gender and for all ages.

It is easy to imagine that wooden toys are expensive because they are so durable and great for kids. But, it is fairly easy, if you look, to find a simple wooden puzzle or set of blocks at your toy store. As these toys last for a long time, you will also find them at a local garage sale for a fraction of the price - well-loved, but still in great condition. You also don’t have to buy the brand-name sets (e.g. Biro wooden trains) you can find similar items at your nearest discount store (check out Ikea).

The reason that wooden toys, including: puzzles, pull-toys, trains, dollhouses, blocks and logs for building have become classics is that they stimulate children’s imagination while standing up to the knocks of childhood play.
